This sculpture was modelled in red clay (terracotta) and then baked in the oven. Afterwards it was coated with brown colour wax. Judging by the elaboration, the sculptor has been a gifted modeller. This informal (no wig) character portrait can be placed in the French-Flemish tradition. Dating on the basis of hairstyle and clothing: 4th quarter 18th century.
