Alexander the Great visits Diogenes
The Greek Cynic philosopher Diogenes(404-323 BC) lived in chosen poverty. The story goes that when asked by Alexander what he wished for, Diogenes asked that Alexander not hinder Diogenes' sunlight. Behold the depiction. The painting style is that of Neoclassicism(ca 1760-1825) with Classical Antiquity as its inspiration. Emphasis is on clean lines and a cool and bright use of color.
